Todd Benzinger Manager
Todd Benzinger is a native of New Richmond. He spent his amateur playing days suiting up for the New Richmond High School and during the summer playing for the Midland Redskins. Following his senior he was drafted, in 1981 by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round. He made his Major League debut in June of 1987. While spending nine seasons in the Major leagues, he spent time with the Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. Over his nine seasons, Todd appeared in the playoffs with Boston in 1988, losing to the Oakland A’s in the League Championship Series; and in 1990 he was a member of the Reds wire-to-wire World Series Champions, remembered by all Cincinnatians as the Red who caught the foul fly to record the final out.
Since his playing days the local fans of Cincinnati will remember Benzinger for roaming the sidelines of Seven Hills and Loveland High School as a very successful varsity girls basketball coach. Benzinger spent seven years with Seven Hills, compiling a 122-47 record while reaching two division IV district finals. At Loveland, over the past two seasons he was 30-12. The winter of 2008 will mark a new endeavor, leading the program at Lakota East.
Mike Maundrell Pitching Coach
Mike Maundrell, spent the last four years with the College of Mount St. Joseph Lions. Maundrell was responsible for the team’s pitching staff. During his tenure with the Lions, his pitching staff has posted team records in ERA, saves and shutouts along with finishing in the top three in wins, complete games, saves, strike outs, opponent batting average, and pickoffs.
Coach Maundrell is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and has coached all levels of amateur baseball, including high school and college for over 25 years along with speaking at numerous pitching clinics. During the summer he served as pitching coach for the Midland Indians 18-year-old division baseball team that won the 2006 CABA Wood Bat World Series.
Coach Maundrell is a Cincinnati native and lives in Anderson Township with his wife, Gail. Currently, he is of counsel in the law firm of Schroeder, Maundrell, Barbiere & Powers. Coach Maundrell attended the University of Michigan. His son, Mark, is currently playing on the Hooters Professional Golf Tour.
Phil Brown Hitting Coach
Phil Brown is a lifelong resident of Cincinnati. He is a 1971 graduate of Western Hills High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He was a 4 year member of UC’s Baseball Team (coached by Glen Sample), a senior co-captain, and one of the team’s leading hitters. The 1974 team was the last to reach the NCAA tournament for UC. He was the recipient of UC’s “Jimmy Nippert Award” presented for academic achievement, athletic accomplishments, and service to the UC community
Phil was a teacher for Cincinnati Public Schools for 30 years and retired in 2005. He has coached baseball for Elder High School for the last 15 years. He began as the coach for Elder’s first freshman baseball team, and has been the Assistant Varsity Coach for the lst 11 years as the team’s hitting instructor. Phil was fortunate to have been able to coach two of his sons to State Championships in 1999 and 2005, and a third son to the State Semi-Finals in 2007.
Phil has been married to his wife, Kathy, for 32 years. They have 4 children Aaron, Katie, Jake, and Nate.
